Universal Pictures ordered two final Fast and Furious films to finish out the series. We know know director Justin Lin and actor Jordana Brewster will be returning for the project.
Vin Diesel said while making the announcement on a Facebook Live stream:
“You wanted 9 and 10 to be incredible. We’ve heard your concerns about the saga and where it needs to arrive in its final chapters.” He then welcomed Lin and Brewster into the video to confirm their involvement.
Lin first directed 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. the addition of Dwayne Johnson in 2011’s Fast Five brought a larger audience. It’s unclear in what capacity Lin will be involved in Fast and Furious 9.
Brewster’s last franchise appearance was in 2015’s Furious 7. In the film, she and Paul Walker’s Brian Hobbs retire from the Fast & Furious team to raise a family.
Directed by F. Gary Gray, The Fate of the Furious earned $1.2 billion worldwide and starred Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Scott Eastwood, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron.
