It was revealed in Entertainment Weekly that Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Jonathan Frakes will be helming an episode in the first season. Discovery co-showrunner Gretchen J. Berg said:
“Jonathan Frakes will rejoin the Trek world with Discovery. He’s a fantastic guy and great director.”
Fellow showrunner Aaron Harberts added:
“Our cast is dying to work with him.”
Frakes began his directing career while he was on The Next Generation as Commander William Riker. His Star Trek credits includes episodes of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager along with the TNG feature films First Contact and Insurrection. Ther credits include episodes of TNT’s The Librarians, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Orville, V, Falling Skies, Roswell, Leverage, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and feature film Clockstoppers.
The Star Trek: Discovery premieres Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8:30/7:30c on both CBS and CBS All Access. New episodes will drop every Sunday only on CBS All Access, with the second episode available the same night as the premiere.
