Author and comics writer Gerard Jones 59, was arrested on December 29 after a police investigation and ensuing search warrant at his residence. The search revealed multiple electronic devices storing more than 600 images and videos depicting child pornography in his residence. Authorities say Jones uploaded videos to YouTube depicting a child performing sexual acts on an adult. Other materials found included a video of a child as young as one-year-old. Investigators also believe Jones also traveled to London several years ago to have sex with a minor.
Jones is perhaps best know for 2004’s book on comics history Men of Tomorrow: Geeks, Gangsters, and the Birth of the Comic Book. Other credits include Killing Monsters: Why Children Need Fantasy, Super Heroes, and Make-Believe Violence, writing titles such as Green Lantern, Justice League and Hulk 2099. He also co-creating Prime and The Trouble with Girls at Malibu and El Diablo at DC Comics.
Jones was arraigned Thursday and entered a not guilty plea. Although he has not released a statement, his lawyer, Seth Chazin, said his client denies all of the allegations and emphasized that the 59-year-old had no prior criminal record.
