Sam Esmail, creator of Mr. Robot, is developing a television miniseries based on Fritz Lang’s 1927 classic Metropolis. The original film took place in the futuristic city of Metropolis. In the film, the ruling class live in luxury and decadence while the much larger population of workers labor as virtual slaves. The son of the city’s master world is upended when he meets a young woman from the working classes. Together they work to destroy the system that divides them.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the extent of Esmail’s role in the miniseries is unknown. The project, still in it’s early stages, comes from Universal Cable Productions. Stay tuned, kids….
