Today, Starz is launching it’s own standalone streaming app. The service, in partnership with Apple and Google, costs $8.99 a month. The new app would allow subscribers to download most of the available programs. Starz also offers users a unique option – the ability to download programs for viewing without the need of a wi-fi or broadband connection. The app does not yet offer real time streaming. Current Starz customers who receive the channel through an MVPD subscription will receive free authenticated access to the app.
Starz will be offering first episode of Outlander’s second season two days before its premiere on April 7. All of the channel’s original series will be available later this year along with movies including Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The app will be available through Apple’s App Store and Google Play.
