Bride of Chucky (1998) Chucky’s back after an 8 year absence from the silver screen. Jennfer Tilly is Tiffany, an ex girlfriend of serial killer Charles Lee Ray, and she plans to extract his soul from the mangled Chucky doll. One thing leads to another and soon enough she herself is trapped in a dolls body too. Future Rom-Com Queen Catherine Heigl and her boyfriend are the poor saps who get blamed for the two dolls ensuing murder spree. John Ritter plays a cop. Lots of fun, Tilly is great, and a new life to the franchise.

Seed of Chucky (2004) Don Mancini, screenwriter of Child’s Play, gets the director’s chair in this 5th entry of the franchise. It’s a delightful gory comedy, in which Jennifer Tilly, the voice of Chucky’s bride Tiffany, plays herself, trying to seduce rapper/director Redman into giving her a movie part. Meanwhile Tiff, Chucky and their androgynous offspring, Glen/Glenda, who looks just like David Bowie, continue their murderous ways while seeking new bodies to inhabit. John Water plays a nosey tabloid reporter who meets a grisly death. I’ve seen this a few times now, its 87 minute runtime seems to fly past in a blink of an eye. I love this movie, my favorite of the franchise.

Curse of Chucky (2013) Chucky is back after a 9 year absence and Don Mancini, who has written every Child’s Play is in the director’s chair for the second time, 2004’s Seed of Chucky being the first. Brad Dourif is back as the voice of Chucky, and his real-life daughter, Fiona plays Nica, a wheelchair-bound young woman who lives in a large house with her mother. A mysterious package arrives with a Chucky doll inside, and before the night is up, mom is no more. Nica’s sister and her family come for condolences, but it quickly turns into an attempted money grab. The young niece takes a liking to the doll, but it’s gonna be a long night and he houses inhabitants soon start to drop like flies. The Chucky doll doesn’t speak until very close to the end of the film, and there is no nudity, although a sexy nanny gets down to underwear. I liked this a lot better the second time around for some reason. Lots of fun and a good surprise ending. I don’t see any scenario where I would not be looking forward to a new Chucky movie.
