Syfy Acquires New Van Helsing Series Featuring a Female Lead

Let’s see how well THIS goes over… Syfy has acquired a female Van Helsing series. That’s right – a LADY in the lead role. Neil LaBute is on board to write and executive produce the series. The character Professor Abraham van Helsing was originally introduced in the 1897 gothic horror novel Dracula as a vampire hunter, monster hunter and arch nemesis of Count Dracula. THR is reporting the new series will center on Vanessa Helsing, daughter of legendary monster hunter Abraham Van Helsing,  who must lead humanity against a world controlled by vampires. Nomadic Pictures will produce the series with LaBute exec producing along with Simon Barry, Evan Tyler, Dave Brown, Daniel March, and Chad Oakes and Mike Frisley of Nomadic Pictures. Production of the 13-episode first season will begin in January and will debut in the fall on Syfy.
