Nichelle Nichols’ agent Zach McGinnis wrote on Facebook:
“Last night while at her home in LA, Nichelle Nichols suffered from a mild stroke. She is currently undergoing testing to determine how severe the stroke was. Please keep her in your thoughts.”
She is reportedly awake and in good spirits with her right side slightly effected. There are no signs of paralyses.
Nichols is best known for her role as Lieutenant Uhura on Star Trek. Gene Roddenberry’s casting her in the series broke many racial barriers. Nichols went on to star in several Star Trek films, between 1979 and 1991, including The Wrath of Khan and The Final Frontier. In 2006 Nichols played the role of Nana Dawson in Heroes and also made a guest appearance on Futurama in 2002 with George Takei. She also reported last month on Facebook that she had begun filming a sequel to Surge of Power.
She was scheduled to appear at New Jersey’s Eternal Con on 13 and 14 June.
