Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk are planning a new webseries called Con Man. The Firefly alums are looking to fund the first three episodes their new project using Indiegogo. Tudyk stars as Wray Nerely, an actor who starred in a fictional sci fi show called Spectrum. The series was canceled and became a cult classic. Nathan Fillion stars as Jack Moore who also starred in the series – but went on to become a major movie star. Jack lives large and Wray goes on to appear at conventions, comic book stores, and other pop culture events. Sean Maher, Gina Torres, James Gunn, Seth Green, Felicia Day and Amy Acker will also be appearing in the series. Tudyk is writing and directing and Fillion will be producing.
At this point, the campaign has raised over HALF A MILLION DOLLARS – passing its $425,000 goal. Why crowd fund? On their page, they explain:
The most important reason to use Indiegogo is that we have genuinely passionate, stalwart and powerful fans. We’ve even seen fans get movies made. We realized pretty quickly we ought to cut out the middle management and just get you involved as soon as possible. We’ll have more fun having you on board this early in the process, and we know you’d love to see what we’re up to along the way. Not to mention, sci-fi conventions wouldn’t exist without you. You built this world but you’ve only seen one half of it. You know the carnival, let us introduce you to the carnies.
