Ahead of the premiere, AMC has already renewed the coming Walking Dead spin off series. We will get the first season later this summer which will consist of six hour long episodes. Details are scarce, but AMC has confirmed the spin off is set in Los Angeles. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting a source said the new series focuses on the onset of the zombie outbreak. The series is still untitled. The pilot was co-written by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson. The duo are also executive producing along with Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert. Adam Davidson will direct the pilot and Erickson will serve as show runner. As for then cast, here is what ‘sources’ say so far:
– Cliff Curtis as ‘Sean Cabrera’ – a divorced teacher
– Kim Dickens as ‘Nancy’ – guidance counselor and romantically interest of Sean
– Frank Dillane as ‘Nick’ – Nancy’s son
– Alycia Debnam as ‘Carey Ashley’ as Nancy’s ambitious daughter , who is the polar opposite of Nick and has dreams of leaving L.A. for Berkeley when the apocalypse strikes.
Kirkman himself said of the second season order:
“We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC. I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we’ve accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story. I’m very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to The Walking Dead.”
This is crazy exciting for us fans. Stay tuned, kids…
